Toronto Cat Rescue (TCR)

About Toronto Cat Rescue.

TCR is a no-kill, not for profit, 100% volunteer, registered charity – all donations go directly towards helping cats in need.

TCR relies on volunteers to foster cats in their homes until a cat lover adopts them. Having a network of foster homes allows every cat in our care to be part of someone’s home. It gives a rescued cat a chance to adapt to living with a family, sometimes with other cats, dogs and/or children.  On average we have 300+ cats available for adoption.

With over 100,000 homeless street cats in Toronto, TCR is very active in the feral cat community. We support and educate our volunteers in the care and feeding of feral cat colonies and support TNR(M): Trap, Neuter, Return, Monitor efforts.

Toronto Cat Rescue is often the only hope for a homeless, abandoned, sick or injured cat. We help cats escape situations of abuse, neglect, or imminent euthanasia. We see some terribly sad cases, but happily many of them have positive outcomes thanks to all the caring cat lovers who adopt from us.

 How You Can Help.

 Donate.

Donations are always needed and appreciated!

As an all-volunteer charitable organization, Toronto Cat Rescue needs donations of every kind, from pet food and other cat supplies to the cash required to pay veterinary bills and even Canadian Tire money.

All donations go directly to the care of rescued cats – every penny counts!

Sponsor A Cat.

We have set up the Toronto Cat Rescue Sponsorship Program to give you the opportunity to sponsor one of our very special cats and help TCR with their care.  This allows TCR to save special cats and kittens that others would ignore.

Sponsorship of a particular cat can be done through CanadaHelps by one time only donation, or monthly deductions from your credit card.

Toronto Cat Rescue often takes in cats who have had some unfortunate experiences in their lives. Some of our rescued cats have been simply put outdoors to fend for themselves when their owners move or decide to ‘get rid’ of them. Others are born outside never to experience a loving hug or regular meal.  The occasional cat requires special foods or medications. Some cats test positive for feline viruses, which are not contagious to humans.  With proper care, patience and love, many of these cats are able to lead long and normal lives.  Toronto Cat Rescue is very hopefully that very special people will choice to give one of these kitties a loving forever home.

Sponsor A Colony

Feral cats are too wild to live as companion animals because they have never had exposure to humans, however they are exactly the same as our indoor companions in every other way.  Toronto Cat Rescue’s mandate focuses on educating the public about the importance of spaying and neutering for both owned and feral cats. For feral cats we promote what is known as Trap-Neuter-Return (Monitor).

We have set-up a Colony Sponsorship section hoping that the public will be inspired with our feral cat efforts and will make a monetary donation via Canada Helps to help with the spay/neuter and vetting costs.

Trapping continues through the winter so that as many females are spayed before they start breeding again in the spring (“kitten season”). Each of our colonies requires ongoing fundraising in order to sustain the program. The average feral cat will cost a minimum of $100 in vet bills. With many of the colonies consisting of over 20 cats, it is an expensive operation!

Here are just a couple of the TCR sponsored Feral Cat Colony’s that need assistance to sustain the efforts:

We are supporting Toronto Cat Rescue through the Toronto Waterfront 5km.

Help for Cats.

Toronto Cat Rescue’s foster homes are consistently full because every time there is a free space, there are hundred cats waiting to fill the spot. In order to help people who have to re-home their cat, we have developed the Owner Surrender program.  For people who are looking to help stray cats in their neighbourhood, we have the Stray Rescue program.  This is Toronto Cat Rescue’s way of trying to help as many cats as we possibly can with our current resources

If you would like help with Wild/Feral cats, please ask us for information and advice!  Feeding feral cats is just one step, it is also important to spay/neuter the cats so that the population does not increase and the cats have the best life possible on the cold, lonely streets of Toronto.
